Fabia is top-selling passenger car in ČR in 2008

Prague, Dec 28 (CTK) - Skoda Fabia with 22,205 cars sold in the Czech
Republic in January-November tops the list of the most popular cars in the
country, followed by Skoda Octavia with 11,485 units, according to Car
Importers Association (SDA) statistics.

Among imported cars, Ford Fusion with 4,857 units took the first position.

Domestic motorists registered 133,357 passenger cars in January-November, 9
percent more than a year earlier.

Sales of city cars and small family cars grew, while sales of large family
cars fell by 3 percentage points to 13.3 percent.

Sales of city cars increased by 17 percent to 6,910. Chevrolet Spark with
1,641 cars ranked first, trailed by Fiat Panda and Kia Picanto.

The category of small family cars registered nearly a 6 percent growth to
56,497. Ford Fusion came just behind number one Skoda Fabia, and next was
Peugeot 207.

Sales of mid-sized cars grew by 16 percent to 21,550 units. Kia Cee'd with
2,847 units sold came first, followed by VW Golf with 2,184 cars sold. Ford
Focus was third.

Sales of large family cars decreased by 11 percent to 17,715. Skoda Octavia
ranked first, trailed by Passat of Skoda Auto sister brand Volkswagen with
1,293 cars sold. Then was Ford Mondeo.

Interest in executive cars jumped by nearly a quarter to 3,494 units. Skoda
Superb was number one in this category, followed by Audi A6 and BMW 5
Series.

The multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) category grew by 16 percent to 14,347 units
sold. Skoda Auto with its Roomster model (3,927 units sold) topped also
this category. Next were Dacia Logan and Citroen Berlingo.

Interest in luxury cars remained almost the same. A total of 373 cars were
sold, four more than last year.

Mercedes S Series took up over two fifth of sales here. Sales of sports
cars grew by 5 percent to 930 units, with Audi A5 taking the first place.
