Brussels, Jan 8 (ČTK) - Ukraine signed Thursday an agreement with the European
Commission that invites European monitors to the country to oversee gas
transit from Russia to Europe, an informed and trustworthy source told ČTK.

The two countries have been involved in a dispute over gas deliveries.

The agreement on the expert mission should open the way to resumption of
halted Russian gas supplies via Ukraine to Europe which have hit hard
several European countries.

Alexej Miller, head of Russian gas giant Gazprom, said earlier Thursday the
company would at once resume gas deliveries after the monitors are
positioned and have access to equipment.

EU representatives, including Czech Industry and Trade Minister Martin
Riman, are holding talks with Miller and other representatives of Russia in
Brussels.
