Klaus leaves for 3-day visit to Egypt on Sunday

Prague, Feb 4 (CTK) - Czech President Vaclav Klaus leaves on Sunday for a three-day visit to Egypt where he will have talks with his counterpart Hosni Mubarak and have meetings with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa and Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmad Nazif.

On Sunday Klaus will participate in Cairo in the launch of the Czech-made Skoda Superb car on the Egyptian market.

He will also see the construction of a show room of the Skoda car maker in Cairo that will be one of Skoda Auto's biggest in the world.

Klaus will also present his book Blue, not Green Planet in Egypt and will start an economic forum in Cairo.

Klaus was in Egypt two years ago already as the first Czech head of state to pay an official visit to the country.

He then discussed mainly the strengthening of economic cooperation, including in tourism, between the two countries.

Egypt is one of Czech firms' traditional partners in the Arab world, but bilateral business relations have stagnated over the past few years.

Top Czech politicians visited Egypt for the last time in January 2009 to attend negotiations about a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip that Mubarak convoked.

Then Czech prime minister Mirek Topolanek and foreign minister Karel Schwarzenberg represented the European Union which the Czech Republic was presiding over then.

The Czech Republic has traditionally good relations with Israel and it attempts to have them with its Arab neighbours as well.

Egypt has been a favourite destination of Czech tourists over the past years.
