Prague, July 29 (CTK) - The Czech police inspection has reopened the investigation into the case of convict Jiri Kajinek, who is serving life sentence for a double murder from 1993, the daily Pravo reports yesterday.

The inspection has been for a couple of months checking whether policemen were behind the double murder, which ensues from wiretapping recordings that detectives made on the day of the act.

One of the detectives testified this, saying that businessman Antonin Vlasak, who allegedly contracted the murder, was wiretapped then over another case, according to a legal complaint released to Pravo.

There was no mention about Kajinek in the wiretapped phone calls. They, on the contrary indicated that policemen had committed the murder, the former policeman testified, Pravo writes.

The police inspection has checked the suspicion that not Kajinek but policemen committed the double murder several times. Last time it refuted the suspicion in 2004, the paper recalls.

"The case is being investigated now. Until the investigation is completed, we will not release any further details," police inspection spokeswoman Martina Lidlova told Pravo.

The legal complaint in Kajinek's favour was filed by Austrian businessman of Czech origin Phillip Janyr in March.

He said the former policeman had contacted one of Kajinek's supporters with a new testimony.

Kajinek was given a life sentence for a double contract murder of two underworld figures, fitness clubs owner Stefan Janda and his bodyguard Julian Pokos. Pokos's brother Vojtech, the other bodyguard, survived the shooting and then testified against Kajinek.

Kajinek drew the media attention by his successful escape from Mirov, a tightened security prison in north Moravia, in 2000. It took the police several months to uncover his whereabouts and rearrest him.

Kajinek still pleads innocent and he demands that his case be re-opened. He claims his trial was manipulated by the police

The film Kajinek inspired by his life story, directed by Petr Jakl, will be premiered on August 5.
