Prague, Jan 11 (CTK) - Director of Prague-based Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) Jeffrey Gedmin has resigned from the post which he held from 2007, a well-informed source told CTK and the radio's press section confirmed Tuesday.

Gedmin has received another job offer, the press section said.

He announced his resignation on Monday.

The U.S.-funded RFE/RL moved from Munich to Prague in 1995.

It broadcasts news and information in 28 languages to 21 countries where free press is banned or not enough developed and freedom of speech restricted.

At present, the radio has almost 20 million listeners in the countries such as Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Ukraine and the former Yugoslavia countries.

The radio station was moved from its seat in the former Czechoslovak parliament building near the National Museum on Wenceslas square in Prague's centre to a new five-storey building outside the centre in mid-2009.
