Administrative court suspends nationalist National Party
Prague, Aug 17 (CTK) - The Czech Supreme Administrative Court (NSS), acting on the proposal of the government, has suspended the activities of the nationalist National Party (NS), CTK found out in the court's database Wednesday.
The controversial extra-parliamentary grouping has not been active for some time, it has practically disappeared from politics.
The party was most probably suspended over its failure to present a financial management report or its was incomplete.
The NSS also dissolved Wednesday the Democratic Union of the Czech Republic (DEU CR).
The NS was active on the Czech political scene from 2002. Its chairwoman Petra Edelmannova resigned in October 2009 and members of the land council resigned from all their posts as from December 1, 2009.
In the following months the party's web also ceased posting any reports. "The National Party has ended, patriots remain," says the party's web page www.narodni-strana.cz now.
The party was coming out against the European Union and immigrants.
Some of its rallies were dissolved because they were held in breach of law and some of its representatives had problems with law.
Jiri Gaudin, a former member of the party's land council, was given a suspended sentence for his publication The Final Solution to the Gypsy Issue that speaks about Romanies' resettlement to India, among others.
The NSS verdict cannot be appealed. The party could theoretically file an appellate review with the Constitutional Court.
The DEU CR 's activity was suspended in 2008. It was founded in 2004 by dissatisfied members of the Freedom Union-Democratic Union (US-DEU)
They wanted to revive the ideas of the original Democratic Union that used to be supported by up to 3 percent of voters in the 1990s and that merged with the US before the 2002 general election.
The party promulgated rightist conservative ideas, open support to businesspeople, restriction of bureaucracy and an irreconcilable stand on communism.
The US-DEU also definitively left the political scene as from January 1, 2011.
