Gott wins Český slavík award for 37th time
Prague, Nov 27 (CTK) - Czech pop music singer Karel Gott, 72, has won a poll for the most popular Czech pop singer and was presented with the Golden Nightingale award for the 37th time on Saturday evening.
Taking over the award, he remembered that he got a mere three votes and ended 49th when he took part in the poll years ago.
Gott has kept at the top of domestic pop music for almost half a century. For almost 40 years, with a few pauses, he has been regularly winning the most popular singer polls.
Gott won the Golden Nightingale award for the first time in 1963.
He is popular not only at home, but also abroad, mainly in Germany and Russia.
Gott has issued some 150 long-playing albums.
Czech President Vaclav Klaus decorated him with a state award for contribution to Czech culture in 2009.
Gott has two adult daughters by his girl-friends.
In January 2008 he married Ivana Machackova in Las Vegas. They have two daughters, born in 2006 and 2008.
Gott has a grandson born in 2010.
