Some 140 experts to attend Czech-U.S. conference on innovations

Prague, March 1 (CTK) - Some 140 representatives of government bodies and institutions, university circles and businessmen from the Czech Republic and the United States will attend a two-day U.S-Czech conference on innovations to be held on March 5-6, its organisers said Thursday.

The conference starts in the Liechtenstein Palace in Prague centre on Monday, March 5.

It is organised by the Government Office along with the Foreign Ministry, the Embassy of the United States in Prague, the Industry and Trade Ministry, the CzechInvest government agency and other institutions.

Significant guests to the conference from Washington will be E. William Colglazier, adviser to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and John Szymanski, from the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the White House.

The participation of many research and innovation institutions and teams in the conference will enable to establish important contacts and identify opportunities of future joint projects.

Czechs and Americans have successfully cooperated in research and development in a number of projects, such as the cooperation of the prestigious U.S. Mayo Clinic with the St Anne Teaching Hospital in Brno, and the participation of research teams from the Czech Technical Universities (CVUT) in the U.S. defence research projects.

The number of joint Czech-U.S. projects and grants has been rising.

American partners use the fact that Czech science has reached excellent results in some selected fields and can offer something even to the country that is the world leader in innovations.

This is confirmed by the increasing presence of Czech startup companies in incubators Silicon Valley and elsewhere in the United States.
