Police investigate death of Ostrava judge

Ostrava, North Moravia, July 9 (CTK) - Czech detectives are investigating the death of Ostrava regional court judge Miloslav Studnicka, who tried four racist arsonists who threw firebombs into a house of Romany family in 2009 and who was found dead with slit throat now, a police source confirmed to CTK yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Gabriela Holcakova has only said the police were investigating the death of a man, aged 64, in the Novy Jicin region, north Moravia.

Studnicka tried the case of four arsonists in Vitkov, north Moravia, who threw firebombs into the house of a Romany family in 2009.

A baby girl nearly died, suffering terrible burns, and two adults were injured. The four arsonists were sentenced to 20-22 years in prison.

According to the information of Czech Television, the man was found in his cottage in Frenstat pod Radhostem, north Moravia.

Detectives are working on the case.

Besides, Studnicka tried other cases which provoked much public attention.

Last year, he tried a man, aged 32, over rape of two small children.

This year, he sentenced three drug dealers to two, nine and ten years in prison, respectively.
