Prague, July 9 (CTK) - The Czech police have shelved the case of the alleged dubious granting of degrees at the Law Faculty of the University of West Bohemia (ZCU) in Plzen, the daily Pravo writes yesterday.

The police have not proved that someone from the faculty's former management committed a crime, Pravo writes.

"We have failed over the lack of evidence," Antonie Zelena, head of the Plzen attorneys, said.

Detectives were checking the system of lifelong learning programmes from which students could transfer to bachelor studies without fulfilling any conditions.

A scandal of a teacher's plagiarism at the Plzen Law Faculty surfaced in the autumn of 2009. Later it was revealed that a number of prominent students, above all politicians, police officers, state administration officials and relatives of influential people, had completed their studies and received doctorates suspiciously quickly and under unusual circumstances.

In late June, new Education Minister Petr Fiala cancelled the accreditation extension for the Law Faculty in Plzen till 2016, and he extended it till October 2013 only in order to help the students concerned.

The Eductaion Ministry did not allow the faculty to enrol new students some time ago.
