Prague, July 10 (CTK) - Most Czechs are aware of the Romany Holocaust during World War Two, according to a poll conducted by the STEM/MARK agency for the Komunita Sant'Egidio Catholic movement and released to CTK yesterday.

After Jews, Romanies were the other most frequently mentioned group of people who were persecuted and killed for various reasons during the war.

The respondents were asked to spontaneously, without being given a list, name groups that were persecuted during the war.

Ninety percent of the polled mentioned Jews and two-thirds mentioned Romanies.

One-fifth of the respondents recalled the persecution of political opponents and 15 percent mentioned the Slavs. Homosexuals and physically and mentally disabled were listed by 12 percent each.

Nine percent did not know any group persecuted during WWII.

The poll was conducted on over 500 respondents aged 15-59 years.
