Fuel prices stagnate, remain at record high

Prague, Sept 6 (CTK) - Fuel prices in the Czech Republic stagnated in the past week, but still remained at all-time highs, and the top-selling Natural 95 petrol cost Kc38.17 a litre, the same as in the previous week, according to data of company CCS which monitors prices at filling stations.

The price of diesel oil increased by 1 heller to Kc37.18 a litre, CCS said.

The growth of fuel prices has stopped owing to the strengthening crown, Petr Cermak, an analyst from company Colosseum, said.

Oil prices have also been falling in the past days, Cermak said.

Prices should mostly continue to stagnate this week, he said, adding a moderate drop is also possible.

Miroslav Novak, an analyst from company Akcenta, expects that above all diesel oil prices will be increasing in the months to come.

"Diesel oil is used for heating mainly in Western European countries, and demand for it is rising," Novak said.

In the medium-term outlook, fuel prices in the Czech Republic will continue to grow owing to the continuing growth of oil prices, according to Novak.

The price of Kc40 a litre might then no longer be something exceptional, Novak said.
