Detectives uncover drugs worth CZK 3 million

Tabor, South Bohemia/Prague, Sept 11 (CTK) - Detectives from the Czech National Drug Centre (NPC) have seized the biggest amount of hashish on Czech territory in the last eight years within an operation codenamed Sen (Dream), NPC director Jakub Frydrych has told CTK.

The police in Tabor have arrested two Czechs who illegally grew plants of non-industrial cannabis, produced and distributed marijuana and also imported and distributed high-quality hashish, Frydrych said.

If they sold the seized drug in the streets, they would gain about three million crowns, he added.

The two arrested men were accused of unauthorised production and other handling narcotics and psychotropic substances and poisons.

If found guilty, they face eight to 12 years in prison.

They have been taken into custody. Further arrests are expected, Frydrych said.

The investigation into the case has not been closed yet and other people might be accused.

Policemen caught the men red-handed when they were taking over 6.5 kilos of hashish.

During home searches of the suspects, policemen found and seized another 12 kilos of hashish, an illegal cannabis cultivation unit, 300 grammes of dried marijuana prepared for distribution, 750,000 crowns, 150 moldavite gemstones, six mobile telephones and a notebook.

The police also seized a special home-made devise for the hashish production of non-industrial cannabis.

During the investigation, the police mapped the illegal import of another ten kilos of hashish to the Czech Republic by the suspects.

According to the police, one of the arrested men smuggled hashish to the Czech Republic. He bought the drug with a very high tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content in Morocco and then he was smuggling it hidden in a caravan across Spain, France and Germany.

The perpetrators were cultivating non-industrial cannabis in a greenhouse at a family house of one of the detainees. Policemen found 20 extremely grown cannabis mother plants for a further division there, Frydrych said.
