Fuel prices drop slightly

Prague, Sept 20 (CTK) - Fuel prices in the Czech Republic slightly decreased in the past week thanks to the stronger crown, the price of the top-selling Natural 95 petrol falling by 11 hellers to Kc38.40 a litre on average, according to data of the CCS company.

The price of a litre of diesel oil dropped by 2 hellers to Kc37.15 over the past week, according to CCS which monitors fuel prices at petrol stations.

Fuel prices decreased also thanks to the strengthening of the crown currency, Petr Cermak, an analyst at company Colosseum, said.

The prices might continue to fall also in the days to come and the drop could be in the order of tens of hellers, Cermak added.

Analyst Miroslav Novak of company Akcenta said fuel is cheaper because oil prices are falling.

"If the price of a barrel of oil drops to the $100 level, it would mean a gradual decrease in prices at petrol stations and partial relief for motorists," Novak said.

"But the likelihood that fuel prices will fall markedly in the following months is not very high," he added.

The price of the Brent oil stood at around $108 a barrel on Wednesday.
