ČTK photographs of Havel displayed in London
London, Oct 4 (CTK correspondent) - An exhibition of photographs of the late Czechoslovak and Czech president Vaclav Havel (1936-2011), taken by the Czech news agency (CTK) reporters, was opened at the embassies of the Czech and Slovak republics in London Thursday.
The photographs, mainly from the time of Havel's presidency, were displayed in the Old Town Hall in Prague in the summer and they attracted a high attention of the public and media.
The exhibition in London will be held until November 17, the anniversary of the beginning of the Velvet Revolution in 1989 that toppled the communist regime in the then Czechoslovakia.
A selection of Havel's large-scale photographs from CTK will be also displayed at the Prague international airport's terminal 2 as from Friday, October 5, when it is officially renamed the Vaclav Havel Airport, till the end of the year.
The CTK photographs from 1988 to 2011 map not only Havel's presidency in December 1989-March 2003, but also the period shortly before and the years after he left the office. They show him during official events as well as in private situations.
Havel, playwright, thinker and former dissident, was the last Czechoslovak and the first Czech president. He died in his country house in Hradecek, east Bohemia, on December 18, 2011, aged 75 years.
