Prague, Oct 6 (CTK) - Pavel Vondrous, who attacked Czech President Vaclav Klaus with an airsoft gun in Chrastava, north Bohemia, last Friday, has offered a compensation to Klaus for the material damage he caused to him, the daily Pravo writes Saturday.

Vondrous, 26, says he is willing to pay the damaged jacket and skirt to Klaus or at least cover the costs of dry cleaning, Pravo adds.

In a letter sent to Klaus, Vondrous asks for the calculation of the damage incurred and the bank account number where he could send the money.

"My intention was to point to the current state of politics and society and not to cause damage to the president, Vondrous writes in his letter.

The Presidential Office has not reacted to his offer yet, he told Pravo.

If the president did not answer, Vondrous would send him at least common costs of dry cleaning, he said.

Vondrous shot plastic pellets from an airsoft pistol from a close distance at Klaus at a bridge opening ceremony in Chrastava. Then the attacker left the site of the incident without Klaus's bodyguards intervening and he even gave an interview to media before his arrest.

The police accused Vondrous of breach of the peace. He faces up to two years in prison if found guilty.

However, if his act were qualified as assaulting a public official, he would face up to six years behind bars, Pravo writes.
