Parlamentní listy: Nečas warns ODS members of govt's fall

Prague, Oct 27 (CTK) - Prime Minister and Civic Democrat (ODS) leader Petr Necas has warned against the fall of the government in a letter he sent ODS members on Friday, Parlamentni listy online daily has written.

Necas says he prefers his coalition government to continue ruling the country with a revised programme to its fall and early elections, Parlamentni listy writes.

"In face of the threat of the Communists (KSCM) getting in power, I prefer the continuation of the current coalition with firmly fixed parameters set in a revised government manifesto," the daily quotes Necas as saying.

Necas warns against a possible future left-wing government of the Social Democrats (CSSD) and the Communists. These parties have won the recent regional and Senate elections.

Necas's government comprises also the conservative TOP 09 and the small Liberal Democrats (LIDEM).

The ODS will hold an election congress next weekend, shortly after its defeat in the regional and Senate elections.

Six ODS rebel MPs have been opposing a tax package that the government considers crucial and Necas linked a vote of confidence in his government to the parliamentary vote on the package that raises taxes in order to cut the budget deficit.

The ODS leadership has been negotiating with the rebels, but so far in vain. Necas said the rebels seem to seek his removal, not ODS right-wing values. Many observers share this view.

Necas says in the letter to ODS members that he wants to more communicate with the rank-and-file and explain the government's key reform plans to them.

The present government probably will not be able to rule if the ODS group of lower house MPs is not willing to respect a majority opinion after a long discussion, Necas writes in connection with the dispute over the tax package.
