Prague, Dec 31 (CTK) - Road accidents have claimed 677 lives this year, 30 fewer than a year ago and 76 fewer than in 2010 in the Czech Republic, the preliminary police data for this year said Sunday.

Thanks to this, this year can become that with the lowest number of road traffic fatalities since 1990.

This December, 41 people have died on Czech roads so far, while a year ago, the police recorded 62 deaths.

August with 74 fatalities was the worst month when it comes to road traffic accidents, followed by June and July with 66 each.

The smallest number, 29, was recorded this February.

The most tragic day was August 19 with 10 road traffic deaths.

On the other hand, there were 66 days with no road traffic fatalities, one day more than last year.

Serious injuries were suffered by 2,827 Czechs, with 141 in December alone.

Drunk driving has caused 4922 accidents, the police statistics said.
