iDnes.cz: Czech prosecuted over tax evasion rejects amnesty
Prague, Jan 17 (CTK) - Miroslav Provod, prosecuted with Tomas Pitr over tax evasion, does not want that the case be terminated by the amnesty that Czech President Vaclav Klaus declared on New Year' Day, iDnes.cz server writes yesterday, adding that he hopes he will be cleared.
Libor Vavra, deputy chairman of the Municipal Court in Prague, told CTK on Wednesday that the court has halted the prosecution of Pitr and Provod based on the amnesty.
Pitr has not yet announced his further plans.
Under the indictment, Pitr and Provod stripped the state of 23.5 million crowns in taxes using fictitious invoices.
In 2006 they were sentenced to five years in prison each, but courts cancelled the verdicts last year and started to deal with the case again.
"From the media point of view I and Pitr are still seen as dishonest persons which is difficult to refute if we were convicted of a particular wrongdoing. People are only interested in court results, in the verdicts given," Provod told iDnes.cz.
