Liberec, North Bohemia, Jan 24 (CTK) - The police in the Liberec region have handled the case of a former convict who recently left prison on the basis of the presidential amnesty and now he is doing his utmost to return behind bars, police spokeswoman Vlasta Suchankova told CTK Thursday.

The motive of the 42-year-old man's "unusual" conduct is the approach of his family that has distanced itself from him and evicted him from their home.

The man, one of the offenders with lower sentences who were pardoned by the amnesty President Vaclav Klaus declared on New Year, turned up at a police station and asked for being re-admitted to prison as he has nowhere else to go.

After the police declined his request, he stole some purses and rushed to the police station to confess to the theft worth 1900 crowns.

"A judge punished him with community work, which disappointed the man because his aim was to return to prison. That is why he committed another crime, he burgled a country house. He was detained and the case is being handled. For now I don't know what the outcome is and whether the man has succeeded in being jailed again," Suchankova said.

A total of 6344 convicts were released from prison based on the presidential amnesty.
