Prague, Feb 4 (CTK) - More than two thirds of Czechs regard the current economic situation of the country as bad and 22 percent of them even as very bad, while only 5 percent of people perceive the situation as good, according to a poll conducted in January by the Public Opinion Research Centre (CVVM).

One quarter of respondents assess the country's economic situation neutrally.

In month-on-month comparison, the poll shows no statistically significant change.

The current assessment of the economic situation of the country is worse than a year ago, when the percentage of pessimistic respondents was 7 points lower.

The overall assessment of the current economic condition remains markedly worse than in the period between the second half of 2010 and November 2011.

The poll also reveals that three fifths of Czechs expect the economic situation of the country to deteriorate this year. Only six percent of respondent believe the situation could improve slightly.

In long-term comparison, CVVM registered a more pessimistic assessment only at the start of the economic crisis at the beginning of 2009 and in January 2011.

CVVM has been conducting comparable surveys since 1999.

The poll has also shown that about two fifths of Czechs consider the living standards of their households good, and 5 percent of them even regard them as very good.

About one fifth of respondents regard their living standards as bad, and 5 percent of them view them as very bad.

Two fifths of respondents characterise their living standards neutrally.

CVVM carried out the January poll among 1,032 citizens over 15.
