Saxony, Czech neighbouring region sign cooperation agreement
Chemnitz, Germany, Feb 20 (CTK) - Top representatives of the German state of Saxony and the neighbouring Czech Usti nad Labem region Wednesday signed an agreement on closer cross-border cooperation that aims at promoting tourism and industry as well as joint healthcare, social and environmental projects.
Saxony regional directorate head Dietrich Goeckelmann and Usti region's governor Oldrich Bubenicek added their signatures under the agreement Wednesday.
Individual steps taken within the agreement would be announced by July.
Saxony and the Usti region plan to prepare joint projects applying for EU subsidies, among others.
Goeckelmann said the present effort at saving peat bogs in the Ore Mountains that form the Czech-German border is an example of a successful joint project.
The Ore Mountains are called Krusne hory in Czech and Erzgebirge in German.
