Budvar exports record amount of beer to Germany in 2012

Ceske Budejovice, Feb 26 (CTK) - Czech beer maker Budejovicky Budvar exported 251,182 hectolitres of beer to Germany last year, up by 8 percent year-on-year and the highest amount in its history, brewery spokesman Petr Samec told CTK yesterday.

Germany is Budvar's most important export territory, with a share of 38 percent in total exports.

According to the latest poll carried out by the Nielsen agency, lager Budweiser Budvar was the top-selling trademark of imported beer in German retail trade last year and its market share in this segment exceeded 15 percent. Budweiser Budvar was also the most expensive Czech beer in German shops, Budvar sales manager for Germany Anna Tischlerova said.

The average price of Budweiser Budvar in German retail network was EUR78.5 per half a litre last year, according to the Nielsen poll.

Sales in Germany significantly contributed to the fact that Budvar exported the highest amount of beer since 1895.

The brewery's flagship Budweiser Budvar accounted for about 96 percent of the volume of beer exported to Germany last year.

Budejovicky Budvar exported a record of 657,000 hl of beer to 58 countries last year, up by 1 percent ont he year.

The brewery's output last year grew by 2 percent to 1,340,000 hl of beer and its sales increased by 5 percent to Kc2.1bn.

German customers know Budvar's lager since 1897, when it won a golden medal at an exhibition in Stuttgart.
