Police seek breach of peace charges for toy gun attack on Klaus

6 March 2013

Liberec, North Bohemia, March 5 (CTK) - The Czech police have proposed that Pavel Vondrous, 26, be charged with breach of the peace for his airsoft gun attack on President Vaclav Klaus at a public event in north Bohemia last autumn, police spokeswoman Vlasta Suchankova told CTK Tuesday.

If found guilty, Vondrous will face up to two years in prison for the offence.

Vondrous shot at Klaus several times from a plastic gun from a close proximity during a bridge opening ceremony in Chrastava on September 28, the state holiday.

He said by his action he wanted to point out that politicians do not listen to people.

Klaus's bodyguards did not react to the attack.

Two of them were accused of violating their duties during the incident, but their prosecution was eventually halted by Klaus.

The then head of the police team of presidential bodyguards, Jiri Sklenka, resigned over the incident.
