Prague, March 20 (CTK) - The Czech government approved a new version of digital strategy for the Czech Republic Wednesday, reckoning with Internet connection of at least 100 Mbit/s available for half of Czech population and 30 Mbit/s for all inhabitants in 2020.

At present, only 20 percent of households living in towns with population over 10,000 have Internet connection reaching at least 30 Mbit/s. In municipalities with population below 2,000, such speed is not available.

The digital strategy is based on three pillars, namely development of fast-access networks, development of digital services and increasing digital literacy.

The strategy comprises 20 specific measures. It reckons with the state's participation in the project, which should motivate private investments in infrastructure in sparsely populated areas.

In most localities, the government prefers cable technology with optic fibres to wireless networks.
