Ostrava, North Moravia, Nov 30 (CTK) - The Golden Spike international athletic meet in Ostrava will be only held on June 28 since the organisers suppose that this later date will produce better sports performances, the event's sports manager Alfons Juck said on Wednesday.

He said it will be no problem to bring prominent athletes even on this later date.

"We have succeeded to squeeze the meet between the weekend of national championships and qualifications and the first meet of the Diamond League," Juck said.

"In addition, we are interested in the acting world champions or Olympic winners who have wild cards for the World Championship in London. In contrast, we believe that the athletes will arrive in an even better form in Ostrava than before," he added.
Juck said the Golden Spike was held later than on June 28 in 1992 for the last time.

He said another reason for the later date is the hope that there will be a better, typically summer weather.

Juck said he believes that sprinter Usain Bolt of Jamaica, the nine-time Olympic winner, who took part in the Golden Spike eight times, will arrive again next year.
