MfD: New Czech method helps identify illegal drug sender

Czech criminal experts have invented a unique intelligent database that helps identify illegal drug shipment producers and senders by comparing the unveiled drug's packaging with similar cases all over the world, daily Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) reported yesterday.

ANO party continues to top election polls with sizeable lead over Social Democrats

Finance Minister Andrej Babiš's ANO would win the election to the Chamber of Deputies if they were held now with 27.1%, according to a poll conducted by the STEM polling agency in early May and released yesterday.

Czech scientists develop explosive detection device for NATO

Experts from the Prague-based University of Chemistry and Technology (VŠCHT) have been preparing a device for the detection of explosives and chemical warfare substances for NATO, that would be reliable and for an affordable price, Michal Janovský, from the VŠCHT PR section, told ČTK yesterday.

Visegrad Four defense minister propose contingent for Baltic states for 2017

The deputies for the Czech government ANO movement have once again failed to support a government bill in parliament, which is at variance with the smooth operation of the government coalition, PM Bohuslav Sobotka said after the lower house rejected a closely-watched anti-smoking bill yesterday.

Chamber of Deputies rejects anti-smoking bill

The Czech Chamber of Deputies rejected the anti-smoking bill yesterday, although in an earlier partial vote it dismissed the proposed absolute smoking ban in restaurants. President Miloš Zeman welcomed the rejection of the bill. He is a passionate smoker. The legislation that was also to curb the sale and offer of alcohol was supported by 80 out of 175 deputies present.

Bakala siphons money off bankrupt Czech OKD owner NWR, Zeman says

Up to CZK 150 billion were siphoned off from the New World Resources (NWR) company, whose subsidiary is the Czech coal mining firm OKD that has been declared insolvent, during the time when it was owned by Czech billionaire Zdeněk Bakala, President Miloš Zeman said yesterday.

Prague rejects AI claim about breaching ban on arms exports to Egypt

Czechs still do not permit some military materiel exports to Egypt, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday in reaction to Amnesty International's (AI) report that 12 out of 28 EU members, including the Czech Republic, do not respect the official ban on arms supplies to Egypt.
