Over 900 sights to open within European Heritage Days

More than 900 heritage sights in 150 towns and villages will be open to the public, mainly free of charge, and over 200 events will be held in the Czech Republic within the European Heritage Days on September 3-11.

Czech woman rescued after month in New Zealand snowy mountains

Czech honorary consul in Queenstown, Vladka Kennett, on Thursday praised a Czech female tourist for being able to survive in a remote cabin for a whole month and waiting for rescue after the death of her Czech partner in the New Zealand mountains covered with snow.

Senate backs call for interventions in Šumava Park nature

The Czech Senate supported on Thursday as substantiated a petition launched by South Bohemia residents and calling for the state to pass a bill enabling interventions in the Sumava National Park (NPS) forests, including tree cutting, with the aim to prevent the landscape from drying up.

Senate supports moderate drinking of cyclists

Cyclists should be allowed to ride with a moderate amount of alcohol in blood of up to 0.8 per mille, that is to have a few glasses of beer or wine, on local roads, according to an amendment that the upper house of parliament approved on Thursday.

Soldiers from 17 countries to attend NATO exercise in ČR

About 1,500 troops from 17 NATO and partner states will take part in the Ample Strike 2016 exercise in the Czech Republic that is to secure cooperation between military pilots and forward air control in supporting ground operations, Jaromir Sebesta said on Thursday.

Czech NGOs to send money to Italy hit by earthquake

Czech humanitarian organisations are collecting money for the central Italian areas that were hit by a strong earthquake, which claimed at least 241 lives on Wednesday, the charity organisations Caritas CR, ADRA, Czech Red Cross and the fire corps have told CTK.

Czechoslovak communist leaders sued for Germans killed at border

Bulgarian President Plevneliev to visit Prague in September
