Some 200 Czechs, including PM, commemorate Roma Holocaust

On Sunday, some 200 people, including Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, commemorated the Roma Holocaust at the memorial in Hodonín u Kunštátu, built at the site of a former Nazi interment camp for Roma people.

Prague may offer luxurious flat in centre to guest writers

Prague plans to offer one or two luxurious flats in the reconstructed house in the centre where Jewish German writer Franz Kafka was born to foreign writers who would not pay rent, but write a book in which the Czech capital would play the main role, Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) has reported.

US Jewish organisation to award Zeman in September

Czech President Milos Zeman will receive an award from the U.S. Gershon Jacobson Jewish Continuity Foundation (GJCF) at a gala evening to be held by The Algemeiner paper in New York on September 18, CTK has learnt from the organisation's website.

Supreme state attorney not released from confidentiality

Czech Justice Minister Robert Pelikan has not released the Supreme State Attorney from the obligation to maintain confidentiality for hearing before the Chamber of Deputies commission on leaks of data from investigation files, which the commission head said is an obstruction on Thursday.

Ex-PM's wife against Pirates using her portrait in campaign

The defence lawyer of former Czech PM's wife Jana Necasova, who has been tried for several suspected offences, has asked the Pirates Party to remove her portrait from its election bus where it figures together with the portraits of four politicians criticised by the Pirates.

LN: Britons reject Czech beer for women as sexist product

The Czech Aurosa unfiltered unpasteurised semi-dark lager promoted as "the first beer for her" in a special pink champagne-like bottle faces backlash for being a "sexist product" in Britain, while it has scored success in Paris, daily Lidové noviny reported. Martina Šmírová, who started selling this beer in London recently, met with a number of ironic and mocking comments from British users on social networks.

Czech municipalities have record low number of residents

Almost 90 percent of Czech municipalities have fewer than 2,000 residents and their average number of 1,640 is the lowest of all OECD countries, daily Pravo wrote on Thursday, referring to a study of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Analysis (IDEA).

Czech active reserve members to be paid more

Report: President Zeman's health condition very good

The health condition of Czech President Miloš Zeman, 72, is very good, he only suffers from neuropathy in his feet, a comprehensive check-up has shown, his spokesman Jiří Ovcacek and doctor Martin Holcat, head of Zeman's health team, said in a joint press release on Thursday.
