ČSSD backs 10-percent pay rise in public sector

The Social Democrats (CSSD) will support the demand of trade unions that salaries in the public sector go up by 10 percent next year, which would cost the state about 4.5 billion crowns, CSSD leader Jan Hamacek told journalists after a meeting of his party's leadership on Monday.

Polish miner dies in Czech coal mine, collapses during shift

A Polish miner suffered a collapse and died during a shift in the underground of the CSM coal mine in Stonava near Karvina, north Moravia, on Thursday night, OKD mining company spokesman Ivo Celechovsky told CTK on Friday.

Photo trap registers wolf in Giant Mountains

A photo trap has registered a wolf in the eastern part of Krkonose (Giant Mountains), the highest mountain range in the Czech Republic, representatives of the Krkonose National Park (KRNAP) Administration, which installed the trap, told CTK on Friday.

Military wants to raise number of troops to 30,000 by 2026

The Czech military wants to raise the number of troops up to 30,000 by 2026, from the current 21,000, Deputy Chief-of-Staff Jiri Baloun told CTK on Friday, adding that the long-planned number of troops is 25,000 and further 5,000 will join the new units yet to be established.

The town of Most wants to transform Chanov, a local housing estate with prevailing Roma population, into "a portacabin town", with portacabins as new homes for the locals who now inhabit devastated pre-fab buildings planned for demolition, Deputy Mayor Marek Hrvol said on Friday.

Minister apologises for words on entrepreneurs' practices
