Number of foreigners applying for Czech asylum drops this year

A total of 713 foreigners applied for asylum in the Czech Republic in the first six months of the year, which is 52 fewer year-on-year, according to the latest report released by the asylum and migration department of the Interior Ministry.

Military to buy armoured vehicles for nine billion crowns

The Czech military will buy more than 140 new armoured vehicles for 9.2 billion crowns in the next few years on the basis of the contracts submitted by Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) that the government approved on Monday, he has tweeted.

Government approves technologies to increase airports security

Face- and car number plates-reading systems will be introduced at Czech international airports outside Prague, where such a system has already been in operation, but it will be extended to other parts of the facility, the government decided on Monday.

Report: Roma children often experience school segregation

Roma children often experience segregation in education, according to a 2016 report which the Czech government debated on Monday and which says Romanies constituted some 4 percent of students in the 2015/16 school year, but 15 percent in special (practical) schools.

Education Ministry keeps money for teachers' career system

Some 1.7 billion crowns originally designated for the rejected teachers' career advancement system will probably remain in the Czech Education Ministry's budget for 2018, Education Minister Stanislav Stech told reporters after his talks with Finance Minister Ivan Pilny on Monday.

Pension system continues to decrease in first half of 2017

The deficit of the Czech pension system continued to decrease in the first half of the year and it was at one third of the same period of 2013 and almost at 50 percent compared to 2015, according to the data by the Czech Social Security Administration (CSSZ) CTK has received.

Zeman: Authoritarian states' conditions for big projects better

Zeman recommends Liglass Trading to Kyrgyz counterpart

Czech President Miloš Zeman recommended Czech Liglass Trading firm, which is to complete a cascade of hydroelectric power plants on the Naryn River, to his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev during their meeting, it ensued from his interview for Czech Radio Radiožurnál on Monday. According to the contract, Liglass Trading will build two large and dozens of small hydroelectric power plants in Kyrgyzstan and invest a total of 230 million dollars in the first stage.

Doctors, unions call gov't's health care achievements meagre
