LN: Czechs spend on sport as much as Germans

Czechs annually spend 1.2 percent of their total household expenditure on sport, which is the EU average and a similar share as their Western neighbours', such as Germans, shows an analysis conducted by the UniCredit bank and released by daily Lidove noviny (LN) on Thursday.

Russian Night Wolves to ride across Prague on Saturday

The Russian motorcycle club Night Wolves will stage a two-hour ride through Prague, twice crossing Wenceslas Square in the city centre, on Saturday, the organising association Red Eyed Cruee wrote.

Russian reporter rejects spying allegation, asks PM for help

Alexander Kuranov, a Russian journalist living in Prague whose accreditation the Foreign Ministry did not extend based on information from the Czech intelligence, on Thursday rejected the view that he is a Russian spy and he asked Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka for help in writing.

EU line for victims answers 3,700 calls in first year

The European emergency line for victims 116 006, which has been operating in the Czech Republic since January 2015, answered 3,700 calls during its first year in operation, with four-fifths of the callers being women, Marketa Hlavicova, from the White Circle of Safety (BKB), said on Thursday.

Plzeň stages Freedom Fest as homage to Western liberators

PM: Bill limiting ministers' businesses may be passed soon

The draft amendment to the conflict of interest law, which would restrict the running of business by ministers, might be passed by the Czech Chamber of Deputies by the summer, PM Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) said in the Chamber on Thursday in reaction to an opposition deputy's question.

Nearly 5 tonnes of bananas to be consumed during Prague Marathon

Almost five tonnes of bananas and 2.8 tonnes of oranges will be consumed during the 22nd Volkswagen Marathon Prague international event on Sunday, and also 600 hectolitres of water and ion supply drinks, since sunny and warm weather is expected, the organisers have said.
