Chamber passes amendment to Czech mining law

The Czech Chamber of Deputies yesterday passed an amendment to the law on mining that gives 67% of the fees for surface mining of brown coal to the state and 33% to the municipalities concerned.

MfD: Czech Bloc Against Islam launches paper

The Bloc Against Islam (BPI) headed by Martin Konvička and its ally, the Czech Dawn party that is radically against Muslim migrants, have launched their own paper, called Narodní listy (National Paper), daily Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) reported yesterday.

Právo: minister says Babiš abuses his media in elections

Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Social Democrats, ČSSD) has accused Finance Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) of using the media he owns, particularly dailies Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) and Lidové noviny (LN), in the election struggle, daily Právo reported yesterday.

Lawmakers to debate migrant crisis today

Constitutional Court: parents can refuse inoculation on basis of conscience

Not only religion, but also freedom of conscience in the broadest sense can be a reason for parents refusing their children's vaccination, the Czech Constitutional Court (US) ruled yesterday, deciding for the parents who were recently fined for having refused the compulsory hexa vaccine to their child.

Liberec to accept small group of Iraqi refugees

Liberec will accept about 20 of the 153 Iraqi Christian refugees, the first of whom will arrive in the Czech Republic this weekend, Liberec Deputy Mayor Ivan Langr told journalists yesterday.

Incomplete protected nature list threatens EU subsidies to Czechs

The Czech Republic has to extend its list of protected nature areas that, together with bird areas, are part of Europe's Nature 2000 system, otherwise the EU might sanction Prague or even cut its subsidies to it, the Environment Ministry says in a document submitted to the cabinet.

Czech children taken from three families in Norway, group says

The Czech petition committee in support of families whose Czech children were taken away from them in Norway has documents on three such cases, but it would not release information on the third case, unknown to the public, the committee member Pavel Hasenkopf told ČTK yesterday.
