Czech soldier wins Hero of Week award in Iraq

A Czech soldier from a field surgical team in Iraq received the Hero of the Week award by the coalition forces command today for his excellent fulfilling of tasks during the Iraqi mission and within the preparations for deployment, the Czech General Staff's spokesman Jan Šulc told ČTK yesterday.

Poll predicts election triumph of Babiš's ANO

The ANO movement would clearly win the election if it was held now, gaining two times higher support than the runner-up Social Democrats (ČSSD) who seem to be losing voters for more than a year, according to the latest election model that the CVVM polling institute released yesterday.

Flag, circles remain part of Czech Olympic Committee's new logo

The Czech Olympic Committee (COV) changed its logo yesterday in compliance with new international requirements, and the new logo still contains a Czech flag and the Olympic circles, but no longer the motif of lime tree leaves.

ČR registers record frosts in 14 places

Record low temperatures were registered in 14 out of the total of 150 places in which measurements have been taken for 30 years at least during the night today, the lowest being minus 20 degrees Celsius, Petra Sýkorová told ČTK Friday.

LN: Foreign asylum holders face legal vacuum in ČR

The case of Ruslan Mukuschev, an ethnic Chechen with Austrian asylum who was recently arrested on a shopping trip to the Czech Republic, showed that the EU lacks legislation to bind its members to recognise asylum status granted elsewhere, daily Lidové noviny (LN) reported Friday.

Czech writer Bellová receives EU literature prize

Czech writer with Bulgarian roots, Bianca Bellová, 47, has received this year's European Union Prize for Literature for her novel Jezero (The Lake), the press section of the European Commission (EC) Representation in the Czech Republic announced Friday.

Strong U.S. military convoy to cross ČR, Slovakia in summer

Drahoš to launch his Czech presidential petition on Monday
