Cobra police unit searching for suspected French fraudster

The Czech Kobra (Cobra) special police unit has proposed that tax evasion charges be levelled against 11 members of a criminal group, led by a fugitive Frenchman who is being searched for, National Centre against Organised Crime (NCOZ) spokesman Jaroslav Ibehej said in a press release on Tuesday.

Czech Red Cross donates three ambulances to Syria

The Czech Red Cross (CCK) handed three ambulances within its humanitarian aid that is to improve access to health care in Syria in the West Syrian town of Tartus on Tuesday, the CCK and the Syrian news agency SANA have said.

President Zeman accepts resignation of Sobotka's outgoing gov't

President Milos Zeman on Tuesday accepted the resignation of the outgoing centre-left government of Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) and entrusted it with ruling the country until the appointment of the next government planned for December 13, the Presidential Office has announced.

Czechs join attempt to prevent northern white rhino's extinction

Scientists in Kenya and Europe, including Czechs, are planning an in vitro fertilisation of rhino eggs, a unique operation, as a last chance to prevent the northern white rhinoceros from total extinction, Jan Stejskal, from the Dvur Kralove zoo, has told CTK.

Customs officers find amber worth million crowns on train

Prague's customs officers found almost ten kilogrammes of amber during a check on an international express train on Tuesday, Prague customs office spokesman Miroslav Pokstefl told journalists.

Lower house approves 2018 budget bill in first reading

The Chamber of Deputies approved the 2018 state budget bill in first reading on Tuesday, supporting the budget's basic parameters or revenues, expenditures and a deficit projected at CZK 50 billion. The deficit is CZK 10 billion lower than that projected for 2017. The approved budget revenues are CZK 1,314.5 billion, the expenditures are CZK 1,364.5 billion. The deficit is to be covered mainly by the issuance of state bonds.

Czech, Austrian doctors perform three linked kidney transplants

Doctors from Prague's Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) and the Vienna General Hospital have been the first in Europe to perform three interconnected interstate kidney transplants from living donors, IKEM spokeswoman Sarka Nevoralova told CTK on Tuesday.

ForMin: EC's lawsuit against Czech shunning of quotas is no drama
