Czech government to request extension of state of emergency

The Czech government plans to ask for an extension of the state of emergency at the next government meeting. The Minister of Health Jan Blatny will introduce a new anti-epidemic system (PES) on Friday, which will regulate measures in response to the pandemic according to the current level of risk.

Minister of health orders 10 million antigen tests

Czech Health Minister Jan Blatny has ordered around ten million coronavirus antigen tests, to be used for patients, clients and employees of chosen medical facilities. The Czech government approved an amendment to the Public Health Insurance Act which will allow health insurers to pay distributors directly for antigen tests.

In 2019, spending on R&D grew by 9% compared to 2018. Since 2015, more than 100,000 employees have been working in research and development in the Czech Republic. A gender gap within the field remains evident, according to experts.

Support for president falls due to his communication during pandemic

The public has a negative perception of Zeman's actions during the corona crisis. The Czech government is experiencing a similar drop in sympathy. Around two-thirds of Czechs think that the government is unable to clearly justify its measures against the spread of Covid-19.
