Open House Prague coming in May

Fans of architecture will get another chance to see inside some normally inaccessible places. The Open House Prague festival, in its fifth edition, will open the gates of 80 buildings and other premises on the weekend of May 18–19 for free.

Prague 8 ends contract for Nová Palmovka

The Prague 8 Town Hall has withdrawn from a contract with the construction firm Metrostav concerning the construction of the Nová Palmovka center. The reason is the company's refusal to continue construction, Prague 8 said on its website. The building was supposed to have housed the Prague 8 administration and an emergency services center.

Consumer prices see biggest jump since 2012

The year-on-year growth of consumer prices in the Czech Republic hit 3.0 percent in March. It was the highest year-on-year price growth since October 2012, according to the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). March's growth was 0.3 percentage points up on February's year-on-year growth. In terms of the year-on-year comparison, the rise in March prices came primarily from developments in food and non-alcoholic beverages. Prices of potatoes increased by 74.5%, bread and cereals by 3.3%, butter by 8.6%.

Court upholds Segway ban

Czech beer consumption rises again

Czech beer production and consumption is rising again. Czech breweries produced a record 21.3 million hectoliters of beer last year, an increase of 4.7 percent over the previous year. Beer output had dropped in 2017.
