Jack Daniel's Burgerfest returns in early September

The fifth Jack Daniel's presents Burgerfest takes place Sept. 10–11 at Výstaviště in Prague's Holešovice district. Some 50 restaurants will have stands, and there will be cooking shows and competitions. In just half a decade, Burgerfest has become the largest event of its kind in Europe.

More foreigners may vote in local Czech elections

European Union citizens may obtain the right to vote in municipal council elections, even if they are only in the Czech Republic with a temporary residence. An amendment of electoral laws will be considered by the gov't today.

Castles to open at night for Hradozámecká noc

Paid parking zones expanding

Drivers in parts of Prague 5 and 6 will no longer be able to park without a permit or temporary parking ticket. As of August 24, drivers who live in those districts will need to register their cars at the town hall and be entered in an electronic system and pay an annual fee for each car. Paid parking is also coming to the Jarov neighborhood and as of October 1 to Prague 8.

New website offers insight into socialist era

A new web portal has resources in English for people that want to know more about life in socialist Czechoslovakia. The site was prepared by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (ÚSTR) and is intended for students and teachers, but anyone can use it.
