Former Czech regional governor and ex-minister David Rath, who was sent to prison for corruption, will run for senator for the Czech Sovereignty (CS) party, Rath told journalists on Monday.

Former Czech regional governor and ex-minister David Rath, who was sent to prison for corruption, wants to run for senator in the Litoměřice ward, north Bohemia, saying he knows the locality well as he spent a long time in custody there, Lidové noviny reported on Friday.

Czech opposition criticises Industry Minister Marta Nováková for saying, when asked about her presence in the cabinet led by a prosecuted man, that the practice over which PM Andrej Babiš faces prosecution was widespread among businesspeople. Nováková later apologised for her words.

Metnar not to resign over thesis, apologises for flaws in it

Czech Defence Minister Lubomir Metnar (for ANO) has decided not to offer his resignation to PM Andrej Babis (ANO) over his disputed university thesis, he told a press conference on Friday, apologising for flaws in the thesis but saying it was no plagiarism.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis (ANO) will not demand resignation from Defence Minister Lubomir Metnar (for ANO) over the alleged plagiarism in his university thesis as Metnar may have only made mistakes in quoting sources, Babis said on Wednesday.
