Czech politicians say Beneš decrees are a done deal

Beneš decrees are part of the legal system, Czech politicians said in response to Austrian President Heinz Fischer's statement yesterday that the decrees are "a serious injustice" which other EU countries have not legalised. Some Czech politicians said the country should protest against Fischer's statement. President Václav Klaus said he regrets that "these painful historical themes are abused" in the pre-election campaign in Austria once again.

Czech humanitarian project to send drilling rig to Haiti

A portable drilling rig, a compressor and an army vehicle are to be transported in May from the Czech Republic to Haiti, head of the Praga-Haiti project Václav Vacek told journalists yesterday.

According to UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, Roma in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy are discriminated against and the situation seems to be worsening, AFP reported yesterday.

The controversial road checks of Czech drivers by German police in the German-Czech border areas do not breach the Schengen agreement, but they clash with the Schengen spirit in some cases, the Czech and German foreign ministers, Jan Kohout and Guido Westerwelle, agreed yesterday.

Prince Charles to visit ČR's greenest town
