Prague, 9th May, 2012: CTE Tourism, the organizers of the annual international football tournament for top youth teams (under 19) have announced today the introduction of a new kids’ contest for this year that will be supported by Antonin Panenka. The contest will be known as the “Vrsovicky Dloubak” known in English as “Panenka’s goal” and will culminate in a special event on the Inauguration day of the CEE Cup (22nd July) that Panenka himself will take part in.

Panenka will be returning to the Bohemians football stadium, where he played for most of his career, to support the competition. Approximately 50,000 students from 100 Prague schools (aged 6–15) will be contacted by the organizers, together with UNICEF representatives, in order to give them the chance to compete in the „Vrsovicky Dloubak“. All they will need to do is upload a video of themselves taking a penalty and/or carrying out some football tricks on a specially prepared Facebook page. The winners will then be chosen by a public vote on Facebook.

All participants in the contest will be invited for the Inauguration Day of the CEE Cup on 22nd July, and the authors of the best videos will be asked to show their tricks live during the Inauguration Programme. Panenka will announce the winner and will also give a special prize to the author of his personal favourite video.

The motto of the Vrsovicky Dloubak contest is “Shoot a penalty for UNICEF”, as the organisers of the CEE Cup will be giving 20% of the income received from sponsors, and 50% from each ticket sold during the tournament, to UNICEF, in order to support the UNICEF Schools for Africa project.

Commenting on the contest, Panenka said:

“I had the opportunity to support CEE Cup last year and I was very pleased with the organisation. This year, the organisers have prepared a new contest for kids called “Vrsovicky Dloubak”, which I think is really great. I like to remember the famous Euro 1976 and I am very glad that even today’s young generation is trying some tricks like ‘dloubak’.”

Antonin Panenka became known throughout the world after he stepped up to take the Czechoslovakian penalty in the final of the 1976 European Championship. German goalkeeper Sepp Maier dived to his left, whilst Panenka chipped the ball straight in the middle of the net. Since then, Panenka’s name has been synonymous with this style of penalty kick and footballers from all over the world have tried to imitate it.
