City Hall is downsizing the planned D-metro line before the project even has chance to get off the ground, iDnes.cz reports. According to the city’s new zoning plan, which is to come into effect in 2010, the D-line will not extend to Žižkov, Prague 3, and Libeň, Prague 12, as originally planned. The city sections are not too pleased with these changes. Doubt is the word most used by European media in connection to the end of French EU presidency that is to be followed by the Czech one for the next six months. Last week’s satirical programme on Canal Plus TV represented its latest form. The programme took advantage of hyperbole corresponding to the puppet show to address the question marks accompanying the Czech presidency, which were also underlined by a number of commentaries published in more serious media. The Krkonoše National Park has presented a map of areas where it will be possible to create new slopes and lifts in the coming years without harming the park’s environment. A commission of experts, set up for this purpose by national park executives, assessed 66 projects. The experts recommended to put 31 proposals in place and to make adjustments to 14 other plans. Twenty one projects should be rejected because their impacts on nature would be too large. European Union leaders, led by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, on Tuesday criticised the Czech Republic’s eurosceptic president, weeks before his country assumes the EU presidency.
