The 108. Tour de France has reached its end. The arguably most famous bike race in the whole world has ended, with its traditional last phase on the Parisian Champs-Élysées. This final part of the race was won by Wout van Aert from the Jumbo-Visma team. However, the winner of the whole race is the 22 year old Slovenian cycling legend Tadej Pogačar from the UAE Emirates team, who had now won the 3414 kilometre long ‘Tour’ two times in a row. According to cycling experts, he was visibly dominant for the whole duration of this year’s Tour de France. In the end he was a staggering 7 minutes and 3 seconds faster than any of his competition. By now many of our readers might have seen the goal Patrick Schick scored against Scotland in the group stages of the UEFA EURO 2020. The 25 year-old forward scored with a kick from just a couple steps into Scotland’s half of the field. The ball raced through the air with tremendous speed and spin. This caused the ball to change its trajectory mid-flight, a phenomenon described as the Magnus effect. This confused the Scottish goalkeeper who was already having a hard time racing back to his goal, since he did not anticipate a Czech offensive break. Ultimately, the ball descended from the air into the net, scoring a goal. While this goal was described as exceptional by many, onlyContinue Reading

Despite the Japanese public clearly viewing them as a risk, the Tokyo ‘2020’ Olympics will take place in the Japanese capital just 15 days from today. However, the local government is pushing for further covid-19 restrictions, which could result in a ban of any fans at all events. This seems to be the only politically viable choice for a Japanese government that wants to please other nations by organising the Olympics, but also wants to get re-elected by the Japanese voters. Due to this decision, we will not be able to cheer on the Czech athletes directly, but we can celebrate their victories from the comfort of our homes starting on July 23rd. For the first time since the split of Czechoslovakia, the Czech basketball team has qualified for the Olympics. The team has already woken up the nation’s basketball lovers when they placed 6th in the men’s world cup in 2019. Summer is here, and so are several major sports tournaments. Already it has been a pivotal summer of sports for countries around the world. Though, that’s not to say everyone is on the same playing field. Spain was devastated by Rafael Nadal’s surprise loss to Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the French Open 2021, as the 35-year-old was going for his 14th French Open title and playing on his preferred surface — clay. Yet, some countries appear to be thriving more than others, particularly the Czech Republic. At Euro 2020, the Czech Republic won their first group stage match against Scotland on June 14, marking the Czechs first win against the Scots since 2010. Meanwhile, Czechia made history in tennis the day before,Continue Reading
