Founded in 1968, Teatr Ósmego Dnia is most famous for its grotesque and ironic critique of the socialist regime in Poland before the collapse of communism in central Europe. In 1985 the group was officially banned and the majority of its members were forced to leave the country, reuniting again in 1989.
On Saturday, as part of the Za Dveřmi festival, Hala Thámova in Prague 8 will host their play “Ark”, which aims is to remind us that we still live in an era of wanderers, refugees and political fugitives.
As a hors d’oeuvre, Kino Světozor will today screen a documentary movie about the group, with a subsequent question-and-answer session with both the performers and directors.
The last event of this year’s celebrations is showing of the film “Solidarność, Solidarność”, a compilation of thirteen short films by major Polish film directors. It’s an opportunity to see how Andrzej Wajda or Krzysztof Zanussi in retrospect comment on the Solidarity phenomenon. The screening will take place on 21 September at the Polish Institute, Malé náměstí 1.
