Karlovy Vary, West Bohemia, July 8 (CTK) – Park by Greek film director Sofia Exarhou was named the most promising project in the Works in Progress competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Tuesday night.

Exarhou and her producer Amanda Livanou received 10,000 euros for the services of the Studio Barrandov, a Prague-based film studio.

The international jury selected the winner from 15 out of the originally 57 competing works, calling it a portrayal of a young generation that has been betrayed and deprived of its future.

The story takes place in the abandoned former Olympic village in Athens.

Park is Exarhou’s first work. Its script won several international awards for young authors.

Krystof Mucha, from the Karlovy Vary festival’s team, said two films from the Works in Progress section last year were then presented at the festival in Berlin and one at the Sundance festival.

They were the Turkish film Sarmasik (Ivy), the Russian film Chaiki (The Gulls) and the Slovak film Koza (Goat).
