Dafoe, Kaufman to be awarded at Czech film festival in K. Vary

Prague, June 21 (CTK) – Prominent U.S. actor Willem Dafoe, twice nominated for Oscar, will receive a Crystal Globe and director, script writer and producer Charlie Kaufman the President’s Award at the forthcoming 51st Czech Karlovy Vary film festival, its president Jiri Bartoska told journalists yesterday.
Dafoe will be awarded for his exceptional contribution to world cinematography, Bartoska said.
Kaufman received an Oscar for his film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in 2004.
Dafoe was twice nominated by the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the films Platoon and the Shadow of the Vampire.
He was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and received the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Kaufman started his career as a director with Synecdoche, New York in 2008.
Bartoska repeated that at the beginning of the show, which will take place on July 1-9, there would be the world premiere of the British-Czech film Anthropoid describing the killing of Deputy Reichsprotektor of Bohemia and Moravia Reinhard Heydrich in Prague in 1942.
The section Horizons will show Pedro Almodovar’s latest film Julieta, artistic adviser to the festival, Eva Zaoralova, said.
“The projection will be accompanied by Adriana Ugarte and Emma Suarez who play the lead roles,” Zaoralova said.
Festival executive director Krystof Mucha said Ted Hope, renowned producer of independent films (21 grams, Happiness, Storytelling), would visit the festival for the third time. This time, he will come as the main producer of the film Amazon Studios.
