Scandinavian film Listen wins Prague Shorts festival

Prague, Jan 25 (CTK) – The 13-minute Danish-Finnish film Listen by Hamy Ramezan and Rungano Nyoni received the main prize of the 11th Prague Shorts short film festival on Sunday evening.
The film tells a story from a Copenhagen police station: a foreign woman in a burqa comes to the station to sue her abusive husband, but the official translator does not want to translate her complaint correctly.
Ramezan is a Finnish-Iranian film director, Nyoni was born in Zambia and raised in Britain. The film was nominated for an Oscar.
The Prague Short Film Festival is held by the organisers of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. It presented more than a hundred films from 36 countries.
The festival programme director Karel Spesny said the Brutal Relax Show section with horror-like bizarre works screened on Saturday late night was the most popular.
Fifteen short live action films from 13 countries competed for the main prize.
A special mention was given to the French-Belgian film Jay Amongst Men by Zeno Graton. The spectators liked best People Are Strange by French director Julien Hallard.
The Prague Short Film Festival presented a part of its programme in several Czech and Slovak towns.
