Nove Mesto na Morave, North Moravia, July 5 (CTK) – A bronze statue of church reformer John Huss, who was burnt at the stake 600 years ago, made according to a model by sculptor Jan Stursa was unveiled in the garden of the local protestant church on Sunday.
Stursa (1880-1925), one of the founders of modern Czech sculpture, was born in Nove Mesto na Morave.
The unveiling was the culmination of the Jan Stursa Year and it was accompanied with a concert and a dramatic performance.
The newly unveiled statue has been the first cast of the model. The statue, placed on a pedestal, is more than one metre high and it weighs 2.5 tonnes.
At present, seven sculptures by Stursa can be seen in his home town.
