Prague, Jan 12 (CTK) – British Prime Minister David Cameron is to arrive on a visit to the Czech Republic at the invitation of his counterpart Bohuslav Sobotka on January 22 and he will also meet President Milos Zeman, presidential spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said yesterday.
The visit is to be approved by the government on Wednesday.
According to CTK´s information, Britain´s future in the EU will top the agenda of the talks between Cameron and Czech politicians.
Negotiations about Britain´s demands for an EU reform, released in mid-December, are held now. Their fulfilment is a condition for the government to support Britain´s staying in the EU.
Cameron has promised to put the question of Britain´s EU future to the citizens in a referendum to be held by the end of 2017.
In one of the most controversial proposals, Britain demands that it be exempted from paying welfare benefits to immigrants from the other EU countries.
The British demands are to be debated at the EU summit in February, after which a campaign ahead of the referendum will be launched in Britain.
Cameron is now mustering support for the proposals in the other member countries. Last Thursday, he discussed them with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
On the same day, he addressed a conference of the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU), which is a member of German Chancellor Angela Merkel´s government.
