Prague, Jan 20 (CTK) – The Czech Chamber of Deputies will debate the migrant crisis on Thursday at the request of the opposition that was supported by the junior government Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) at the start of yesterday´s deliberations.
The major government Social Democrats (CSSD) and the ANO movement did not support the proposal.
The government coalition first wanted to deal with the migrant situation in three weeks only and it was rejecting requests for the issue being given priority.
The lower house of parliament should discuss migration after government members answer the lawmakers’ written questions, or one hour before the noon break on Thursday.
However, this is not entirely sure because the lawmakers will still be able to again adjust the agenda on Thursday morning.
The dispute over the debate on migrant issues took almost two hours when the lawmakers were approving the agenda of the first regular session this year on Tuesday.
This was mainly due to the lawmakers of the opposition Dawn party who unsuccessfully demanded that the house discuss a call for the government to permanently secure the protection of the Czech border, the health risks arising from the migrant crisis and a tightening of the asylum law.
The opposition said the government is to regularly inform the house of the situation and migrant crisis-related measures according to a resolution of last February.
The Chamber of Deputies previously dealt with the theme last autumn.
