Prague, March 28 (CTK) – The police arrested 12 people who replaced several Chinese flags, which decorate lamp posts of the main road from the airport to the city’s centre to welcome President Xi Jinping, with Tibetan ones yesterday, their spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova told CTK.
The arrested people did not obey the police orders and some of them climbed the lamp posts and chained themselves to them. They are suspected of committing an offence. The police had to call the firefighters who took the protesters down from the lamp posts, Zoulova said.
The decoration with Czech and Chinese flags was paid by the Mixed Czech-Chinese Chamber of Mutual Cooperation headed by Jaroslav Tvrdik as an advertising. Xi Jinping arrived in Prague this early afternoon.
According to CTK’s reporter, activists replaced two Chinese flags with Tibetan ones. The police removed the Tibetan flags after some time. Police had to intervene to stop a skirmish between Chinese people waiting to greet Xi Jinping’s convoy and the activists. The police also dealt with a clash provoked by a group of young locals who cursed the Chinese and called on them to leave the country.
