Prague, Aug 28 (CTK) – Czech President Milos Zeman will not launch any election campaign if he runs again for the post of president, Zeman told Czech Radio on Sunday.

Zeman repeated that he would announce his decision on whether to re-run next March.

“If I decided to run again, I would not start any election campaign. The voters should decide based on the results of my work in the past five years,” Zeman said.

Eighteen months before the presidential election, the candidature is being considered by songwriter Michal Horacek, MEP for TOP 09 and former justice minister Jiri Pospisil and Senate deputy chairman Zdenek Skromach (Social Democrats, CSSD).

In June, the candidature was announced by businessman Igor Sladek and in July, doctor and civic activist Marek Hilser.

Observers are of the view Zeman seems to be ready to run again. His predecessor, former president Vaclav Klaus, told CTK in March that in his view, since Zeman will re-run, it is useless for anyone else to run.

Zeman, 71, was elected in the first direct presidential election in 2013 after having defeated conservative candidate Karel Schwarzenberg.
